Solution: DWG Files Do Not Open by Double-Clicking, Windows Prompts ‘Cannot Find File’

If you are unable to open DWG files by double-clicking them, and Windows displays a ‘Windows cannot find the file’ error, follow these steps to resolve the file association issue.

Method 1: Repair File Associations Using deepuninstaller

  1. Open deepuninstaller.
  2. Navigate to the Extensions or Utilities section.
  3. Select Fix CAD file association.
  4. After the repair process, attempt to open a CAD file that you wish to associate with AutoCAD.
  5. A prompt will appear asking if you want to Always associate with DWG files.
  6. Select Always.

Method 2: Manually Associate DWG Files

If the issue persists, you can manually set the file association:

  1. Right-click on a DWG file.
  2. Select Open With > Choose another app.
  3. From the list of programs, select AutoCAD DWG Launcher.
  4. Ensure the Always use this app to open .dwg files checkbox is selected.
  5. Click OK.
